The Speed Advantage: How Dual Picture Sights Outperform Red Dots at Combat Distances

Hello everyone!
As an early present before Santa gets here, we’d like to share the easiest way to achieve co-witness with our sights featuring Daniel Robinson of ArmedForager.
He used a Glock 49 and the SCS MOS to achieve this excellent co-witness, which he shows on his first video review of our product.

Why Co-Witness?

Similar low seated windows will also offer this but wait there’s more! Our unique sight design offers several advantages even when serving as a co-witness to a red dot. As some of you may know, our tests have shown an average 20% immediate increase in both speed and accuracy from practitioners ranging in skill levels from beginner to Navy SEAL.

But did you know that on average people still find standard iron sights faster or at least comparable to red dot sights at typical gunfight ranges? Check out this article which goes into detail and can be corroborated with similar findings:

Iron Sights vs. Red Dots: The Data

In the article the author Paul Gardner conducted the following tests: “I’d draw and fire 1 shot at a B8 pistol bull target, holster the gun, then repeat this a total of at least 20 times with each gun at each yard line — maybe a few more rounds if I felt it needed it.

Let’s compare his results with a theoretical calculation of our own sights being involved:

3 Yards
⦁ Original: Irons 1.55 | Red dot 1.75 → Irons faster by 0.20
⦁ With Dual Picture Sights: Irons 1.24 | Red dot 1.75 → Irons faster by 0.51
5 Yards
⦁ Original: Irons 1.65 | Red dot 1.75 → Irons faster by 0.10
⦁ With Dual Picture Sights: Irons 1.32 | Red dot 1.75 → Irons faster by 0.43
7 Yards
⦁ Original: Irons 1.75 | Red dot 1.80 → Irons faster by 0.05
⦁ With Dual Picture Sights: Irons 1.40 | Red dot 1.80 → Irons faster by 0.40
Note that 7 yards is the distance the original author considers standard iron sights and red dots to pretty much tied and we agree. But a .40 second difference in speed is far from a tie.
10 Yards
⦁ Original: Red dot 1.80 | Irons 1.90 → Red dot faster by 0.10
⦁ With Dual Picture Sights: Irons 1.52 | Red dot 1.80 → Irons faster by 0.28
15 Yards
⦁ Original: Red dot 1.80 | Irons 2.05–2.10 → Red dot faster by 0.25–0.30
⦁ With Dual Picture Sights: Irons 1.64–1.68 | Red dot 1.80 → Irons faster by ~0.12–0.16
25 Yards
⦁ Original: Red dot 2.25 | Irons 2.95 → Red dot faster by 0.70
⦁ With Dual Picture Sights: Red dot 2.25 | Irons 2.36 → Red dot still faster by ~0.11

The Co-Witness Advantage

But this doesn’t tell the whole story. As you can see in the images it is possible to co-witness the dot with our circular sight as well as with our precision sight picture. This means that the same ‘circle in circle’ effect is enhanced even further by having one more circle

Additionally, as the writer of the article at BreachBangClear said: “Approximately 1 out of every 20 to 30 draws with the red dot equipped Glock, I’d have to waste approximately half second or so searching for the red dot because I couldn’t initially see it after presentation. This never happens with iron sights because, unless you do something extreme, you can always locate the front sight upon presentation.

Red dots have very little room for error in any direction before the dot disappears from view.”

Not only does the precision sight picture allow you to locate your front sight without issue, it also allows another reference point to center the dot completely perfectly in the window, allowing an even higher level of accuracy on the user’s part much more easily than a fully open window would.

Why Professionals Choose Dual Picture Sights

This is one of the many reasons, including the ease of tracking moving targets, that a Special Response Team’s (SRT) reason for chose our sights over red dots.

Speed, accuracy, tracking, and reliability are reasons that police agencies and others who need sights that will perform to the highest level are selecting our sights

It really is the best of all worlds.

We are working on dedicated suppressor height sights as well to expand your options.

Wishing you a Happy Holiday season!
